Walking near the Mission Home

Image
While biding our time, waiting for missionaries to arrive,  we took several walks around the neighborhood and found some interesting sites.... They specialize in hair AND food! We can see the ocean through some of the trees in our yard.

Orphans visit the beach

Image
A local orphanage that is run by a church member, Quita, was visiting a beach.  Paul & Jan Preneveau, volunteers from the US that help the orphanage, were visiting the  Mission Office and invited Sister Carlson to join them.  Sister Gloria Terry, serving a mission in Ghana, was visiting Liberia and was invited to go along. Ceremonies for handover of new Wells

One was for a community and the other for a school. The Mayor for the area and a former Senator were also in attendance. On our way to the site of the new wells, we got to take a look at a latrine built by LDS Charities. One of new wells. This one was completed in April. After President officially hands the well over to the community, he pumps it for the first official time. The water is received and tasted by the Senator and Mayor. We then load up in our various vehicles and drive to the...

First Looks at Liberia

Image
On June 30, 2015, President and Sister C. arrived in Liberia to re-open the Liberia Monrovia Mission, which had been closed 10 months earlier due to the Ebola epidemic. We were immediately greeted with the news of another Ebola outbreak that day. We knew then that we would not be receiving missionaries for some time.
